The Mayor has decided to forge ahead to construct the pedestrian/bike path on the sands of Mahunapu`uone at Wailua Beach – a decision that we strongly feel was uninformed and misguided. We need your support in establishing an ALTERNATE ROUTE by steering the pathway OFF OF THE BEACH and toward the ma uka alignment BEHIND of Coco Palms.
Contrary to Path advocates’ claims that potential environmental, cultural and spiritual impacts have been addressed, THEY HAVE NOT. The path is only one of several development projects that are simultaneously occurring in Wailua. County, State and Federal authorities HAVE NOT COMPLIED with required laws and regulations, including Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. The Environmental Assessment is flawed and inadequate for a region as culturally and historically significant as Wailuanuiaho`ano. Please join us in a unified appeal asking for an EIS (Environmental Impact Study). It is our shared duty to protect and care for our environment, culture and the sanctity of the iwi küpuna. We humbly ask for your presence and participation at this very important Public Information Meeting this coming Monday. Your support is needed!

hope the mayor sees the light
Are they actually trying to build a path over a sacred burial ground? That is not very smart.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me, the powers that be will do whatever, where ever & however they want...Those people have no souls, respect or love. It's all about themselves and their gains whether it be property, money or favors.
ReplyDeleteIf put in a similar situation, we doubt that they would agree to having someone build on their sacred burial grounds. I may be wrong, perhaps they would sell their souls if offered the right price...don't you agree.
It's disturbing to hear that the mayor (note I didn't say "OUR") SAYS HE'S hAWAIIAN AND CARES ABOUT THE CULTURE ETC. THAN TURNS AROUND AND GOES AGAINST THE CULTURE, ITS belief and its people. No can this kind people.
It was a circus last night, with the County clowns stealing the show. From the beginning, with Mayor Bernard addressing the crowd in Hawaiian, then reading a speech written by Asst. Mayor Beth Tokioka, to Maunakea Trask stating that there are no burials on Wailua Beach, and to Doug Haigh being exposed as a liar, it was a wonderful and entertaining circus. Thanks for the show.
ReplyDeleteSo the mayor keeps saying he is HAWAIIAN. He attends the public meeting speaking in Hawaiian. Does that make him HAWAIIAN? wE DON'T THINK SO. wHAT IN THE WORLD, OR WHO IS HE TRYING TO IMPRESS? dID HE BELIEVE TRUE hAWAIIANS WOULD BELIEVE HIM JUST BECAUSE HE COULD CHANT? hOW MANY NON-hAWAIIANS LEARN TO CHANT; DOES THAT MEAN THEY ARE hAWAIIANS THEREFORE WE SHOULD BELIEVE ANYTHING/EVERYTHING COMING OUT OF THEIR MOUTHS? a TRUE hAWAIIAN (WHETHER THEY HAVE THE koko OR NOT) PRACTICES THE CULTURE FROM WITHIN AND NOT ONLY (IN THIS CASE)waha...Seems to us, the mayor is making fun of us.
